Australian GP 2009: Rossi closes on title

uk.eurosport.yahoo.com
Ducati rider Stoner wowed a patriotic crowd with a virtuoso performance to hold off second-placed Rossi, who extended his championship lead to 38 points over Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo who crashed out on the first corner.
The Spaniard collided with Ducati's Nicky Hayden seconds after the start and fell as he was forced wide off the track. Lorenzo appeared to escape from the high-speed spill with only minor injuries, but his title hopes are surely over with only two races left and 50 points to play for.
Honda's Dani Pedrosa secured a lonely but worthy third place, ahead of Alex De Angelis and Colin Edwards.
Britain's James Toseland came in a disappointing 14th after being given a ride-through penalty for jumping the start.

Brawn GP driver scores fastest time was 1 minute 19.576 seconds on the 4.309 km track along the slippery slope. This means that opportunities still win the world championship wide open, considering his team mate Jenson Button to start from a position less advantageous.
With the absence of host driver Felipe Massa, racing fans in Brazil jet land could still support Barrichello.
Occupied the second place Red Bull Racing Mark Webber. Holders of temporary top, Jenson Button had to settle for the start of the 14th position. 2009 world champion candidate who takes the number 6 is wrong with the tires. He uses a special tire wet - while others have driver using intermediate - make him difficult to develop speed.
Vettel and Hamilton only Q1
The rain was so heavy flushed along 4309 km circuit that could qualify one hour delay. Until inspection path must be more than three times.
The bad weather conditions con be a disaster for McLaren and Red Bull Racing (Red Bull). Both teams failed to pass superior driver to the second qualifying (Q2).
Most definitely McLaren, both Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen failed to proceed to the second round qualifying. Under the heavy rain, they could not develop the maximum speed, so that should be satisfied in a position to start the 17th and 18th.
"Our car very ugly and no fast track in a straight line. I'm only 70 percent of the gas pedal," said Hamilton. With much for it, continued Hamilton, the car was driven hard and grip levels were not good cars. In fact he had lost control of the fifth round the corner the last 2 minutes of Q1.
The fate of less fortunate also experienced Sebastian Vettel. Red Bull team driver is only able put himself ranked 16th fastest. That way, he could not continue the session and pebalap German Q2 is very annoyed.
In fact, Webber well known as powerful driver on the track wet. Even last year on this circuit he almost won the race. Only the emotion that has foil victory since late last lap accident.
Accident great
The second qualifying session had started and run two-minute red flag flying straight. V. Luizzi of Force India team had a great shame. The car hit the wall hard and the car was destroyed. Especially two rear wheels off.
As a result, qualifying was postponed because of rain. Even the weather report says rain will continue to fall. Andrian Sutil even predict rain still be flushed up to one hour ahead.
Before that, Williams K. Nakajima had lost control in one corner. Lucky, the Japanese driver able to control the car so he could continue the qualification.

Webber appeared very unusual. A total of three qualifying he mastered and pebalap competing with Toyota, Jarno Trulli, and the winner of F1 Singapore, Lewis Hamilton, the McLaren team.
This is his first pole position since the F1 race at Silverstone circuit in England. Chances to win depend on the perfection of the start and the team strategies in fuel injection and brought in the gas tank.
Moreover, at his side was Trulli, then occupied behind Hamilton and Adrian Sutil. This pebalap third in the last two races showed improved performance. They were very quick off the starting line.
Meanwhile, the top holders while Jenson Button took the start at number seven. As for his team mate, Rubens Barrichello, was fifth. However, both the start position and annulled by the race director, they were both worn down 5 grid penalty for violating the speed when the yellow flag flying.
A similar fate experienced by Adrian Sutil. He also hit penalty down five grid, so it does not assist Hamilton in the second row. Similar penalties are also accepted Fernando Alonso had to start in order to 17.
Three red flags
Qualifications had dyed red flag flutter, of whom experienced an accident Timo Glock at the corner of "S" from understeer. So the hardness, the car outside the track and into gravel and then hit the barrier.
Toyota team Pebalap immediately taken to an ambulance after a car out of the cockpit. Before long, he was flown by helicopter.
As many as two other red flags flutter occurs in the second round of qualifying (Q2). First, when pebalap Toro Rosso, Jaime Alquersuri, hit the barrier at the Degner corner from too wide. Lucky, the man from Spain was not injured and could be declared the race tomorrow.
The second flag flutter occurred last few minutes of Q2. Pebalap Sebastien Buemi drove out the corner Spoon. Broken front wing marshall to make a yellow flag that actually derail the struggle of two teams pebalap Brawn to improve his time.
