F1 GP Abu Dhabi 2009 Qual: Hamilton Pole, Vettel second

Former world champion Lewis Hamilton put on a stunning display in qualifying in the last Grand Prix of the season to claim pole position in Sunday's Abu Dhabi race.

The pole position is the 17th of Hamilton's career, putting him second amongst current drivers, one behind Fernando Alonso.

McLaren's joy at Hamilton's pole was reduced marginally by the disappointment of Heikki Kovalainen qualifying in 13th.

The Finn had been the quickest in Friday practice but had a gearbox failure in the second session of qualifying.
